Getting to the Volcanoes National Park by Rental Car
With your rental car, you can travel on a smooth road to Musanze Town. The road is mostly in good shape. For great outdoors, you need to hire a vehicle with good clearance. A 4×4 is highly recommended. The journey from Kigali to Musanze takes about 3 hours due to enhanced speed limits that are very effective.
To go gorilla trekking, you need to drive to Kinigi park headquarters that lie 12km from Musanze/Ruhengeri. The journey is along a surfaced road.
